Jiahuan Lu

I am an Associate Professor of Public Administration in the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University-Newark where I also direct the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program.

My research interests lie in the area of public and nonprofit management, with a primary focus on government contracting, nonprofit-government relations, and nonprofit resource management. I have published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Nonprofit Management and Leadership, Public Administration Review, Public Management Review, and The American Review of Public Administration

Of particular pride is my paper entitled “The Philanthropic Consequence of Government Grants to Nonprofit Organizations,” which earned the Editors’ Prize for Best Paper in 2017 from Nonprofit Management & Leadership. I also received the 2022 RGK-ARNOVA President’s Award from the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) for innovative, foundational research in the field of nonprofit and philanthropic studies.

I currently hold the positions of Associate Editor at the Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing, Nonprofit Management & Leadership, and Public Performance & Management Review. I also contribute as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Public Administration Research & Theory.
